4 SIGNS THERE COULD BE A FERTILITY PROBLEM (AND MANY WOMEN IGNORE THEM)

Updated: Mar 13

When a woman decides to try for a pregnancy, it is common to think that everything will happen naturally and quickly. However, for some couples, the journey can take longer than expected.

What many women do not realize is that the body often gives signals when something may be affecting fertility. Recognizing them early can help you seek medical guidance and explore options that may help you achieve a pregnancy.

Below are four signs that could indicate a possible fertility problem.

1 Irregular menstrual cycles

The menstrual cycle is one of the most important indicators of reproductive health.

If your periods are very irregular, for example, they come some months and not others, or there are many days between one cycle and the next, it could be a sign that ovulation is not occurring regularly.

Ovulation is essential for achieving pregnancy, so highly irregular cycles may be a reason to consult with a specialist.

2 Severe menstrual pain

It is common to experience cramps during your period, but extremely strong or debilitating pain is not always normal.

In some cases, this type of pain may be related to conditions such as endometriosis or other gynecological issues that could affect fertility.

If the pain interferes with your daily activities or you need constant medication to control it, it is recommended to discuss it with your doctor.

3 Trying for a year without getting pregnant

Many couples believe pregnancy happens immediately, but in reality, it can take time.

However, if a couple has been trying to conceive for 12 months or more without success (or 6 months if the woman is over 35), it is recommended to seek a fertility evaluation to understand what might be happening.

In many cases, identifying the cause can help find appropriate solutions or treatments.

4 Very heavy or very light menstrual bleeding

Significant changes in menstrual flow can also be a warning sign.

Extremely heavy periods or, on the contrary, very light ones may be related to hormonal imbalances, ovulatory problems, or uterine conditions.

Although every woman is different, noticing important changes in your cycle deserves medical attention.

Listening to your body is important.

Every woman and every fertility journey is different. In many cases, the signs can go unnoticed or be considered normal for years.

Seeking medical guidance does not mean that something is wrong; rather, it can help you better understand your reproductive health and learn about the options available if you are trying to conceive.
