Fertility After 35: What You Need to Know

Turning 35 does not mean that it is impossible to become pregnant. However, after this age, fertility gradually begins to decline, mainly due to changes in the number and quality of eggs.

WHAT CHANGES AFTER 35?

Sad woman

As the years go by, the possibility of some eggs having chromosomal abnormalities increases. This can make it more difficult to achieve a pregnancy or increase the risk of pregnancy loss.

Age is important, but it is not the only factor that determines fertility. Ovarian reserve, uterine health, the fallopian tubes, and male fertility should also be considered.

WHEN SHOULD YOU SEE A FERTILITY SPECIALIST?

If you are between 35 and 39 and have been trying to become pregnant for 6 months without success, it is recommended to have a fertility evaluation.

After age 40, it may be advisable to consult a specialist from the beginning, without waiting several months.

A specialist can evaluate ovarian reserve through tests such as anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) and an antral follicle count, as well as assess other factors that may affect fertility.

WHAT IF I NEED TREATMENT?

Not every woman over 35 needs assisted reproductive treatment. Depending on each individual case, there may be different options, ranging from less complex treatments to in vitro fertilization (IVF).

The most important thing is to understand your individual situation and not delay an evaluation if you have concerns about your fertility.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING

Being over 35 does not mean that you cannot become a mother. It means that time can become a more important factor, and having an appropriate fertility evaluation can help you make informed decisions.
